This unique home was designed by architect Peter Strack in 1968 and remained his family home throughout his life. The current owners, also architects, have lovingly restored the house and garden. The house is hidden in a quiet street in Klein Windhoek close to the new US Embassy. At the end of a long driveway is a single garage and a carport for one car. From there an entrance gate leads into the large, walled garden with a generous pool, past a one-bedroom studio apartment, towards the main house at the northern end of the property. The house is made of high quality prefabricated concrete panels and originally had an open ground floor that was later enclosed as a gallery space to house the architect’s large art collection. The entrance to the house leads through this large open-plan space, and is ideal as a studio or workspace, or as an entertainment area.
The house features 2 bedrooms, of which the larger one is subdivided by a built-in cupboard to create essentially two separate bedroom spaces. Both spaces have large glass sliding doors opening to a small, enclosed patio garden. The bathroom includes a bathtub and shower and a separate guest toilet. The kitchen features solid beechwood floors and cabinets that have recently been renovated and overlooks a 20-meter-high rock cliff at the back of the property. The large living and dining room open onto a balcony with extensive double glazing and include a fireplace and a small study nook. The living space and balcony offer beautiful views towards the Auas mountains in the south.
